Arctic Edge Figure Skating Program

Getting Started

The figure skating program at Arctic Edge Ice Arena begins with a Learn to Skate Program where the young (and young at heart) can learn beginner skills. Taught by our amazing Coaching Staff and volunteers, we follow the US Figure Skating Skate With Us Basic Skills Program guidelines. This program takes skaters from their very first steps on the ice through a number of basic jumps and spins.

Once a skater is proficient in the skills taught in the Learn to Skate Program, it is time for them to move on to lessons with one of our Private Instructors. The coach of their choice will further their skills one-on-one on ice time set aside specifically for figure skaters.

Our Figure Skating Instructors

The Coaching Staff at Arctic Edge come from as far away as Russia and Canada. Each Instructor has an extensive background in figure skating, which includes competitors in competitions and events like US Nationals, Junior Worlds, Russian Ballet on Ice, Holiday on Ice, and Ice Capades, as well as an Emmy Award-winning Choreographer.

Take a look at the Coaching Staff bulletin board in the Arctic Edge lobby, near the doors leading to the front rink. You can ask for the coaching staff binder at the front desk for more detailed profile of each coach. Contact our Figure Skating Director, Jackie Brenner, to find the right coach for you and get started! Coaches are contracted and paid directly by the skater.

Training Ice

Training Ice is time set aside specifically for ice skaters, Instructors, and private lessons. For the safety of everyone on the ice, Training Ice is divided by skill level.

All skaters must purchase a Training Ice Package in order to skate during Training Ice. We ask that skaters schedule themselves for Training Ice sessions online one day in advance. Click below to see the Training Ice schedule and reserve your spot, or to purchase a Training Ice Package.

Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club and Competitions

When a dedicated skater wants to continue skating beyond the Basic Skills Program and is working with a Private Instructor to advance their skills, they will then want to join the Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club.

The OKCFSC is the skater's entry into the US Figure Skating world, full of testing, competing, fun, and friendships. The Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club hosts US Figure Skating test sessions, where skaters demonstrate their skills in front of a panel of judges. The judges grade skaters on their ability to complete a standardized set of skills at the level set by US Figure Skating. US Figure Skating offers testing structures in Singles, Pairs, Dance, Adult, and Synchronized Skating.

Besides testing, there are many Non-Qualifying competitions a skater can attend, working with their coach to decide which ones they want to compete in. Once a skater has reached a competitive level, they will begin competing in Qualifying Events hosted by a US Figure Skating Club. Qualifying Events begin at the Regional level and continue all the way through to Worlds and the Olympics. The Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club offers many additional events including seminars, ice shows, exhibitions, parties, and activities.
