Figure Skating

The figure skating program at Arctic Edge Ice Arena begins with a Learn to Skate Program where the young and young at heart alike can learn beginning skills. Taught by our amazing Coaching Staff and volunteers this program follows the US Figure Skating- Skate With Us Basic Skills Program. This program takes skaters from their very first steps on the ice through a number of basic jumps and spins.

Once a skater is proficient in the skills taught in the Learn to Skate Program it is time for them to move on to Private Instructors where they further their skills one-on-one with the instructor of their choice and on ice time set aside specifically for figure skaters.

The Coaching Staff at Arctic comes from as far away as Russia and Canada and from just as varied a skating background that includes US National Competitors, Junior Worlds, Russian Ballet on Ice, Holiday on Ice, Ice Capades, and an Emmy Award winning Choreographer. Take a look at our Coaching Staff page then contact our Figure Skating Director, Jackie Brenner. To get set up with a coach of your choice fill out the Request for Private Instructor form and drop it by the rink. Coaches are contracted and paid directly by the skater.

Training Ice is time set aside specifically for ice skaters during certian days and times. For the safety of the skaters training ice is divided by skill level. The skater must purchase a Training Ice Card in order to skate during training ice.  Summer months bring Summer Skate School to the ice. Summer Skate School offers a more intensive training atmosphere with both on and off ice classes. Registration is due in May. Summer Skate School registration are available here on the web and in the Information Center near the main entrance of Arctic Edge.

Many skaters want to compete and test their skills against other skaters at their level. The Arctic Open Basic Skills Competition in August gives skaters just such a chance. Open to all skaters from Basic Skills through Preliminary.

When a skater is dedicated and wants to continue skating beyond the Basic Skills Program, has teamed up with a Private Instructor and is advancing their skills they will want to join the Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club. The Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club is the skaters entry into the world of US Figure Skating testing, competing, fun and friendships. US Figure Skating offers testing structures in Singles, Pairs, Dance, Adult, and Synchronized Skating. The Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club hosts test sessions where skaters demonstrate their skills in front of a panel of judges and are graded on their ability to complete the set of skills to a standardized level set by US Figure Skating. Besides testing, there are many Non-Qualifying competitions a skater can attend and will work with their coach to decide which ones to skate in. Once a skater has reached a competitive level they will begin competing in Qualifying Events hosted by a US Figure Skating Club. Qualifying Events begin at the Regional level and continue all the way through to Worlds and the Olympics. The Oklahoma City Figure Skating Club offers many additional events including seminars, ice shows, exhibitions, parties and activities.
